Atlantic 10 Track and Field 2015 Championships Photos

I am at home wandering around a track, though these days it’s not because I’m competing or training against others — unless I’m counting myself. These days, I’m shouldering gear and cameras and lenses from jumps to finish line to throws, trying to capture the incredible skill athletes possess to perform in all the disciplines a full track and field team requires.

For years, I’ve photographed the Atlantic 10 outdoor track and field championships, first as an athlete sidelined with injury when I raced for the University of Richmond under coach Steve Taylor and the Richmond Spiders, and now as a professional sports photographer. The trip back to the East Coast is admittedly long from Denver, but welcome once I’m home (and I got to see my parents for a few hours after they decided to come down to watch the meet from New Jersey). The Atlantic 10 is gracious in allowing me to continue to shoot these events and give me the latitude to experiment while trying to capture the images I need to best tell the story of each day: Joy, agony, celebration, defeat. These moments are everywhere on a track and around a field. Below is a selection of 20 or so of my favorite images from the meet.
